Itinerary
Meet at pick up point in Glasshouse Country region.
Sign Covid Safe documents and settle in to the comfortable van.
We travel along the historic Old Gympie Road to the Glass House Mountains Lookout to gain a perspective of the layout of the mountains. Judy will share information about the way these mountains were formed, and the ancient Indigenous family story called The Legend of the Mountains.
From the Lookout, we will wander the side roads to have a close up look at the mountains and see where the walking trails start. Mt Beerwah and Mt Coonowrin look magnificent from our viewing points. We will see Mt Ngungun, a popular climb for many who love the challenge and the wonderful view from the summit. Mt Tibrogargan is gazing out to sea, as you will appreciate when you see “him” up close.
There will be a stop for morning tea along the way, and plenty of time for toilet stops and for taking photos. If you have some cash handy, you may like to buy fresh local produce from one of the road side stalls using the “honesty box” system.
Time to have a short walk to see the Grinding Stones near Landsborough. This is an important historical site for the Gubbi Gubbi people, who used the sandstone and water in the creek to grind harder stones, sharpening them into the tools necessary for everyday life. It is a beautiful site, just a short walk from the car park.
Return to your pick up point. Cafes and historic hotels are available in the area for lunch, and other recommendations can be made for activities to fill in the afternoon in the beautiful Glasshouse Country.
